At 4:00pm local time in Manguang, Bloemfontein, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will seek to establish their supremacy against the Greek national team to avoid an early exit in the first FIFA World Cup on African soil. Greece would be seeking a revenge of USA 1994 when they lost to the West Africans.

Greece are gracing the World Cup stage for only the second time in their history after appearing at the 1994 edition in USA but a humiliating 3-0 loss to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the group stages stifle their dream.
With four World Cup appearances, first in USA 94, France 98, Korea/Japan 2002 and now the 2010 World Cup South Africa, Nigeria has an edge over its counterparts in terms of history.
Saturday’s encounter with Argentina will no doubt serve as a great tune up for the Super Eagles to take on Greece. The Eagles coach, Lars Lagerback who within a very short time has shown some technical superiority over his predecessor is also in top spirit.
“I am very positive going into the next game. It doesn’t matter if Greece had lost or won. It’s very important for us now to go in to the next game and win it,” Lagerback told South African sports channel Super sport.
Super Eagles’ goal tender, Vincent Enyeama frustrated the goal attempts of the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. Enyeama is expected to put a sterling performance when the Greeks come calling Thursday.
After their loss to South Korea, the Greek goal keeper did admit the strength of Nigerian team.
"Nigeria is a very strong team. We will now analyze all aspects of our game and that of Nigeria to see what we have to do to win,” said Alexandros Tzorvas, the Greek goalkeeper who conceded two goals in his team’s loss to North Korea.
Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Argentina means the Super Eagles can’t afford to lose to either the Greeks. The Super Eagles would hope to soar to keep the African hopes alive.
