Mr. Berewa also expressed grave concern over the spate of violence perpetrated by the opposition parties with impurity. He went on to say that he was worried, in his capacity as Vice President about such happenings in the run up to the August 11 elections.
He further noted that the utterances of threats from the opposition parties would instill fear in the electorates who according to him will discourage from participating in the electioneering process.
The VP further disclosed to the Observers that in a newspaper interview, the APC Presidential aspirant, Ernest Bai Koroma stated they will stage a violent protest should the SLPP emerge as winner of the August 11 elections. He described such utterance as “most unfortunate ,”as according to him it was expected of all party leaders to monitor their supporters for a peaceful electioneering as required by the Codes and Conduct of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) signed by various party leaders.
The Deputy Chief Observer, Mr. Armin Arabitsch told the Vice President that they already have representatives in all electoral districts who according to him were covering all election activities and that their preliminary report will be released by next week.
Mr. Arabitsch also noted that they were not only here to monitor the elections but also the entire process starting from the day of nominations. He further assured the VP that a comprehensive report of the entire electioneering process will be presented to all stakeholders including the President elect within three months after the elections.
