Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni says that more and more Ugandan commodities are flooding markets in Southern Sudan following the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement between Southern Sudan and the Khartoum Government.

“The commodities, such as foodstuffs and cows, come from rural areas of Uganda such as Ntungamo and are taken to Juba for sale”, he said. Mr Museveni was addressing political rallies in Buikwe district. He noted that previously, Uganda could not access this market because it was blocked.
He also urged people in the country to take advantage of the current high prices of essential commodities to produce and sell more food stuffs on regional and international markets.
Among other reasons, Mr Museveni attributed the current high prices of essential commodities to global changes and development in previously poor countries like China and India, which he said have now joined the developed world.
He said that because of the improved economic development in Uganda, many Ugandans are driving vehicles and the demand for fuel has gone up. He also noted that the building sector has made a lot of development hence the demand for building materials which has pushed up prices. “This is our chance to produce more products like fish and food to get more money from the hiked prices”, he said.
Mr. Museveni compared the current situation to a pregnant woman who suffers from ailments but eventually produces a baby which is an achievement. In the same way, he said, if Ugandans work hard and produce more goods, they will get more money.
