Touch Times Ahead For Drub Peddlers

    Drug peddlers involved in the sale of illicit drugs in Cameroon are in for difficult times in the days ahead.
    This comes on the heels of a full-blown fight launched by the government of Cameroon against the sale of these illicit drugs, while commemorating this year’s Africa Day for the Fight against Drug Peddling.
    It is worth noting that drug peddling in Cameroon has resulted to several deaths and other disabilities, mostly witnessed among the population in urban areas.
    The commemoration of this Year’s Africa Day for the Fight against Drug Peddling was occasion for the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, to highlight the devastating consequences of consuming drugs from doubtful origin.
    Meanwhile, in a meeting in Yaounde organised to raise awareness on the destructive effects of these drugs, participants concluded that some of these medicines are even handled by untrained persons.
    It was also realised that, the numerous campaigns to discourage the consumption of medicines from doubtful origin have not been successful, worse still, road side vendors still operate with impunity.
    In major cities in Cameroon, hawkers and vendors selling variety of medicines, some of which are expired, is common place.
    This uncontrolled sales of medicines has resulted to auto-medication which itself does not help the situation.
    However, some pundits argue that such practices cannot be completely checked because of the relatively high prices of approved drugs, usually sold in medical facilities and pharmacies.
