It is the night that Zambians refused to go to bed and said no to sleep following the Chipolopolo (Copper bullets) boys victory over the co-hosts that saw them(Equatorial Guinea) surrender top spot in Group A after losing 1-0 to Zambia in their own backyard in Malabo on the respective night.

Zambia inflicted the first defeat to the co-hosts to win Group A and book a place in the quarter final of the 28th edition of the competition.

The final whistle between Zambia and Equatorial Guinea was a catalyst for the celebrations across the city.

The Copper bullets victory celebrations had no age limit, as Christopher Katongo’s solitary goal was enough to invite all to the party.

Honking by motorists and singing by blissful Chipolopolo supporters was at its peak in the city.

Others were on the move without an idea or clue of where they were going, as they matched across the city.

The Donci Kubeba (Don’t tell) slogan and symbol was also extended to this historic victory.

Our Lusaka correspondent, Mabvuto Phiri reports that soccer fans were united in congratulating Zambia saying after passing the first test the Chipolopolo can now dare to dream of winning the elusive trophy.

The fans said the victory is a sign of better things to come for the Chipolopolo Boys, who were pre-tournament under-dogs.

They said the team needs to be encouraged if the country is to win the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

The result means Zambia are unbeaten so far, while co-hosts Equatorial Guinea finish in second place and are likely to meet favourites Ivory Coast in the last eight.
