The Rabaa family criticizes the selective release of spies

  1. The family of the engineer Tarek Rabaa issued a statement on September 14, 2012 criticizing the selectivity of the military court in releasing the spies' suspects while keeping in jail unlawfully Tarek. The engineer Tarek Rabaa was kidnapped on July 12, 2010 and he is still detained until today based on a wrong suspicion for collaborating with the Israelian intelligence. The military intelligence had suspected Tarek because he received a 1 minute call on his personal mobile from a French taxi number while he was in France in 2007 attending a training at Alcatel-Lucent university which is located in Lannion village. Alcatel-Lucent has admitted its relationship with this taxi company but the military court in Lebanon doesn't want to reveal the truth to the public.

The military court in Lebanon has already released dozens of condemned spies while it is still refusing to release Tarek who is not condemned yet under the pretext of "the type of accusation". The Rabaa family has refused this selectivity in using such pretext to release whom they want and to keep in jail Tarek for political purposes. The Rabaa family has also demanded the head of the court, the pilot Khalil Ibrahim to apply the law and to promptly release Tarek without delay because the detention is arbitrary, the file is unlawful and associated with 108 days of physical and psychological torture, while neither a single evidence is available against Tarek and no confession from his side in all stages of the so called investigations.

The statement has ended by a firm position to refuse this political trial which is being administered by the military court in Lebanon.

From another side, many organizations which deal with the so called human rights, have demanded on August 17, 2012 the Lebanese authorities to stop prosecuting civilians in this military court which is violating the international standards. Among these organizations are Alkarama and Alef which have also demanded the Lebanese authorities to investigate the torture allegations and to stop breaching the international conventions signed by the state of Lebanon.

On November 9, 2011 seven international organizations (Alakarama, ALEF, CLDH, OMCT, FIDH...) have demanded the state of Lebanon to promptly release Tarek Rabaa and to investigate the torture he experienced during his custody in the ministry of defense for 108 days, but until today the Lebanese authorities are careless about the international agreements, and they didn't open this case, yet they are keeping Tarek arbitrary detained since July 12, 2010 in spite of all evidences on torture, arbitrary detention and the intelligence errors, his lawyer Nada Rabaa has submitted to the military court which has a "biased" panel of military officers who don't want to see any evidence against the intelligence, and even they don't want to hear about the torture, but they care about how to protect the military intelligence on the account of the brilliant engineer Tarek RABAA.
