The Cameroonian government is committed to use oil, gas or mining to improve the living conditions of the population in 2013 and become fully compliant with the criteria of good governance of the Initiative for transparency in the extractive industries.
When he joined the EITI in 2005, Cameroon barely rise to the level of compliant country. Candidate since 2007, he missed three times its admission at this stage. Because statements and reconciliation reports which did not enjoy the support of the Board of Directors of the EITI.
The country runs the risk of being strike Initiative if nothing is done by 2013. Such an assumption would lead then highlight some economists, a loss of confidence that international donors are among the supporters of the EITI weight. Therefore, the lessons learned from these failures, Cameroon adopted 11 May a three-year plan 2012-2014 to enable it to attain the status of country line before the deadline of 13 August 2013.
This action plan focuses on capacity building of the members of the Committee and the increased awareness and communication.
Similarly, the government, now getting down to the recruitment of an international expert which we hope that the findings at the next weigh validation, also relies on the engagement of civil society.
A similar approach has been taken from extractive industries and continues in particular to ensure their satisfactory participation in future reconciliations.
The EITI is a coalition of 36 countries, companies, groups from civil society, investors and organizations, which ensure improved governance in resource-rich countries through the verification and full publication payments made by companies and revenues received by governments from oil, gas and minerals.
The benefits for countries implementing include a better investment climate with a clear signal to investors and international financial institutions indicating that the government is committed to greater transparency.
The EITI also helps promote greater economic and political stability. This may in turn contribute to the prevention of conflicts which have their source in the oil, mining and gas.

The gouvernemet and civil society have recently renewed their respective commitment to the EITI. It was followed by the National Assembly whose president has decided to mett up a committee followed the EITI, following the sensitization workshop for parliamentarians to the EITI, which was held on 14 July 2012 to the Chamber of the National Assembly in Yaoundé.
The Technical Secretariat of the Committee followed the EITI Cameroon under the joint chairmanship of the Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development and the Minister of Finance alimine Ousmane Mey, chairman of the Committee held on 17 October 2012 at Hilton Yaounde workshop business awareness to the EITI.
