  2. Poisonous alcohol kills 80 in Uganda


    About 80 people have died from poisonous alcohol over the last weeks in Uganda. The country's ministry of Trade and Industry has imposed an immediate ban on the importation, production, sale and consumption 0f crude waragi and spirits in Kabale district beefing up the ban recently slapped on the same by the Kabale district Alcohol Task Force. - This follows the release the results from the testing of the poisonous alcohol by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards.     - The Uganda Federal Alliance UFA, faces being de-registered for submitting ghost names on its registration forms. UFA was founded by Beti Kamya, the Rubaga North Member of Parliament with the aim of promoting the federal system of governance in Uganda. The Electoral Commission is on a countrywide fact-finding mission about the genuineness of the names submitted by Uganda Federal Alliance as its founding members.   4. Uganda: 50 die from poisonous alcohol


    About 50 people have died after consuming methanol spiked alcohol in Kabale district south western Uganda. 109 people are sick with the effects of its consumption, while 60 have survived but with problems mainly the loss of vision. - The district leadership has now made a recommendation totally banning the importation, production, distillation and consumption of all crude waragi.     A woman who was raped by five men in Kabale district in South-Western Uganda has been beaten to death by her husband. - The police in the district are investigating the incident while the prime suspect is on the run. The district Criminal Investigations Department officer Deo Obongo identified the deceased as Grace Buceye in her 30s - a mother of three. Obongo said that five men namely Kombozi Sabasaba, Herbert Siibo, James Tukaheebwa, Jackson Mbonabirama and Dennis Turyasiima are suspected to have raped the deceased on Tuesday.     - Over 20 people in Kabale district are suspected to have died after consuming poisonous alcohol packed in sachets. The victims are reported to have been residents of Mwendo in Kitumba Kabale district, Kekuubo and Kirigime in Kabale municipality.They all died in the last ten days. Dr.Patrick Tusiime the district health officer confirms the reports. Tusiime says that they are working with the ministry of health to contain the situation.     - Richard Peter Ochandi a former student at Bishop Barham University College –Kabale who died over the weekend after committing suicide has been laid to rest at his home in Tororo. Ochandi’s body was laid to rest in Muwafu village Mpwanga parish in Tororo district. According a German dentist, Dr. Leif Hellweg, the exercise began on 14th February 2010 and will end on 27th February 2010. He adds that they expect to treat 400 patients before the end of the camp.
