Mr Kalule Mbowa was a teenage student at Makerere University when he was illegally expelled (with others) and his place rescinded by the University Authorities, on orders of the Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, on grounds of dissent against government policy. After contemplating about suing the government to no effect, Kalule Mbowa joined the Microscope Newspaper in Kampala where he cut his teeth in reporting, first working as a cartoonist. He later joined Uganda's first private news network, WBS Television, as a prime news anchor, reporter and sports producer. But he continued with his voluntary efforts (for the Uganda Young Democrats; and Makerere Univerity Baganda Nkoba za Mbogo Students associations for which he had served as culture secretary and vice-chair) to increase understanding among Ugandans of all 'hues'. Although he never studied journalism at any stage, save the on-job training he received, young Mbowa was recognised as constant as Shakespeare's northern start. He was credited as one of the young pioneers of Uganda's journalism of the impossible although this was to later put him on a collision course with the state who hated his sharp criticism of their governance and policy in his work for several news organisations. In the face of state-sanctioned threats, Kalule Mbowa, a native of Mukono South - East of Kampala - en route to the city of Jinja, the source of river Nile, was forced to leave the country and headed for Europe. There, he enrolled at the University of Luton UK (now University of Bedfordshire) where he later graduated with a BA Business Administration. He also holds an MSc in Computing and Information Technology of the same University. He has since 2003 worked in both academia and industry in the Uganda, UK, Switzerland, Spain and Omani. A self-made political commentator and corporate/political strategist, he is the founder and owner of CenTro Corporation Ltd, an IT, Media and Business services company with operations in the UK and Uganda. CenTro has interests in several newspaper and consulting establishments in its catchment markets.
