OPINION: Zimbabwe's budget baffles us with bull
Why do Zimbabweans dread budget time? Is it because there is little good news new, if any, that comes out of such an exercise, particularly when it comes to relief in times of economic hardship. The southern African country's national budget was announced last week with all the pomp and ceremony that normally goes with such occasions as if there is anything to celebrate. - Forgive me for being sarcastic but with all the experience that I have garnered listening to statement after statement all these years, I just have to be understandably blasé.
I can’t help but feel pity for the Minister of Finance, Honourable Tendai Biti, who in his trademark bombastic manner always tries to …Zimbabwe gets diamond sales clearance
Southern African country Zimbabwe can now resume limited sales of diamonds from new fields in the east of the country. The Kimberley Process agreed sale of some stockpiles at the Marange diamond fields after the beleaguered country was suspended from the gems trade last November. It will be reviewed September. - The Kimberley Process suspended the diamond exports following allegations of atrocities committed by security forces at Marange.
"The ball is now in Zimbabwe's court to make good on its promises and act to end one of the most egregious cases of diamond-related violence for many years," Annie Dunnebacke of Global Witness said in a statement.

The Brazilians, so full of themselves were their own worst enemies and in my opinion deserved everything that came to them. …Zim style coalition in new UK government?

We are forced to keep a close watch on their antics and weep at their mistakes which invariably result in disastrous consequences. We take the brunt and wish for an early election to clean up the mess. However, elections do not always come up with the solutions that we yearn for. Take those held in Zimbabwe as an example. The government prides itself with holding timely elections. It’s an achievement that has been touted by the former ruling Zanu PF to demonstrate that they were truly democratic. Bar the fact that all these so called demo…Zim Minister tells parastatals to shape up
- The new Minister of State Enterprises and Parastals, Gorden Moyo has read the riot act to those running Zimbabwe’s ailing state enterprises telling them to eliminate underhand dealings and leakages that were responsible for bleeding the economy. The former Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office who is credited with crafting strategies that have lifted the country from economic ruin said that his ministry was working towards banishing the notion that public enterprises are associated with mismanagement and losses. Zimbabwe’s public entities, long associated with corruption, nepotism and maladministration, have been a constant drain on the country’…
