Born on the 29th of January 1981, this was wrong. Born just a year after my sister. January? Not a good month to have a baby. But, they raised me anyway. And my father covered for the love i wasn't receiving from my mother. I joined Shibuye Girls Boarding Primary School when i was just nine. Had to fend for myself, in a strange land. I did it. And for six years, i took care of myself as the teachers and school mothers had their hands full. I was the best in English. Wrote the best compositions and successfully represented my school during public speaking competitions.
I joined Nyakach Girls High School in 1995. High School was good. In a boarding school, but then i was older, bolder, and stronger at heart. I acted, recited poems, performed well in academics and was the teachers darling and still, a black rose as i was always in trouble.
I passed the national examinations. I was second in my school, with an aggregate grade of B-. You see a B- isn't so good given that the best Grade is an A, then an A-, B+, B, then comes a B-. Nonetheless, i qualified for a place at Maseno University to study Communication And Media Studies. Three months later, i was suspended for a year. Don't get me wrong. I wasnt' the bad one. My lecturers were. And since i was the voiceless student with no degree, Doctorate or PHD to my name, i left, dejected. I promised to go back. I didn't. The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication was my next stop.
Three years and a number of achievements later, i graduated with a Diploma In Mass Communication, with a major in Television Production. I landed a producer's job at Citizen Television immediately. I have been producing the station's children magazine show for four years now.
In the four years, i have been honored with a nomination of UNICEF's International Children's Day Of Broadcasting Award, presented at the International Emmys In New York.
My production, WHO IS THE ONE, was also nominated for the PRIX JEUNESSE AWARDS, that recognises excellence in production for children and the youth.
While at Citizen Television, i also hosted and co-produced Upambe, a weekly Arts and Culture show.
I research, write, coordinate and direct all my productions that are for, with, and about children.
