I am currently on a season break after pursuing a very competitive and creative six months working period on Africa’s newest talk show- ‘The Patricia Show’ as the producer. With an emphasis on East Africa, the show seeks to pull together the everyday challenges facing Africa’s many diverse people and bringing the challenges and joys that every woman faces from their careers, the family, the home, dating and relationships, beauty and health, community concerns, the arts, music, theatre and spirituality. Prior to this, I was working as a director/ cameraperson at a local media Non-Governmental organization called Media development in Africa (MEDEVA). In the close to three years that I have competitively worked for Medeva, I have managed to gather expertise skills in proposal writing, creating ideas for TV and radio programs, camera work, script writing, production management of programs, directing and producing local high quality programs that meet international standards. However, I endeavor to improve my news writing and reporting skills, so that I can be able to improve on the features and documentaries that I am passionate on directing. Samples of my progressive work were mainly featured on our local show called ‘the woman show’ that premiered on Citizen TV from 5th May 2008 to include areas of journalism and conflict reporting, political and environmental journalism. As a young and dynamic director and cameraperson in local programming, I have managed to work in a team that has so far managed to achieve under their belt the following: two series of Agenda Kenya (Kenya’s first ever audience-based political talk show), TAZAMA a factual documentary series and the new program ‘The woman’s show’. I also have the studio expertise, besides this that I am ready and willing to learn anything new that relates to media and production. In the media industry, I endeavor to make maximum use of working years by developing the skills to meet the needs in our society as they continue to emerge in their diversity. And to tell African stories to the audiences hoping to bring to light issues faced by them at the national arena for governments concerned to provide workable solutions. My career objective is to attain in-depth understanding and competence in diverse areas of practice and attain professional fulfillment at the same time. I hope to be an excellent and highly competent journalist, who is ready to improve our own Kenyan productions in a challenging working environment with the opportunity for professional growth based on performance. On the academic side, I have managed to comprehensively earn a B.A. communications degree from Daystar University. And I would hope to be a communication expert and consultant in this field on the completion of my Masters in Arts Communication degree that am currently pursing. Upon request I can attach samples of the work that I have done so far for Television work. Despite the tight schedule that comes with my career, I also do find time to impact my communication skills to the youths of Mathare under the umbrella of Mathare youths Groups. My vision is to produce quality, local programming that will result in a positive impact on Kenyan society in this case a high quality features, programs or documentaries that will be used by local media station to educate and inform the public about pertinent issues that affects their lives.
