Football players in Zimbabwe are being paid slave wages and has led the militant Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) intervening. The Premier Soccer League imposed salary caps on players and the labour union says this is "enslaving football players" and in contravention of labour laws. - The Premiership has introduced wages ranging from US$100 to US$150, in a bid to weather the storm and ensure that clubs do not collapse. The winning bonuses have also been pegged at US$30 a match.

Zimbabwe's cricket could get a major boost with the news that former captain and coach Dave Houghton will be returning to work as director of national coaching. Houghton was one of many who turned his back on the crumbling Zimbabwe cricket scene. Walter Chawagu is the current Zimbabwe coach. - Lovemore Banda, ZC spokesperson said Houghton is expected to start work in August. Banda said it is only left with the contract to be finalized.
Houghton’s job is not full-time and will take up around five months during which time he will act as technical director to the national team and age-group coaches and ensuring there is a uniform approach throughout.
