Swine Flu kills three in Algeria

    Three people have died of A/H1N1 flu in Algeria, the first death case linked to the disease in the country. The Algerian Health Ministry announced over the weekend that a 50-year-old woman from Biskra, 425km south-east of Algiers, had died of the disease.

    The ministry’s statement also said another woman aged 27 and her baby from Oran, had died of the virus. No further details were given, AFP said.

    So far, Algeria has confirmed 274 A/H1N1 flu cases, including the three deaths, according to the statement, adding that among the recently confirmed cases, many came from Sudan.

    The North African country has initiated in its national plan some sanitary measures to fight the pandemic influenza, the statement added.

    The Swine flu, now known as A/H1N1, first emerged in Mexico in April and has caused nearly 7 000 deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organisation.
