Sudan: Clashes kill 13 people

    At least 13 people were killed and dozen others were wounded after clashes between the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and northern Misseriya nomads erupted in southern Sudan, witnesses and officials said.

    The clashes erupted on Wednesday in the volatile southern region, where two southern forces and 11 nomads were killed.

    Armed officials said the Misseriya nomads who carried the attack on the oil producing state were completely defeated. “The situation is now under control,” armed forces added.

    Sudan is preparing first presidential and parliamentary elections in 24 years which are scheduled to be held in April.

    The civil war in Sudan has killed two million people and forced four million to flee their homes and caused tribe clashes between each other.

    Armed forces in southern Sudan believe there were political motives behind the attack.
