Somalia president: "We've lost patience"

Somali President Shiarif Ahmed has said the people have lost patience and his government would respond to the countless number of attacks killing innocent people in the country.

He vowed to launch a major offensive attack on insurgent groups who were accused of a suicide bombing at a medical graduation ceremony in Mogadishu. The attack killed more than 20 people, including three ministers, doctors, students and journalists.

Ahmed’s government controls just some few districts of the capital while the Islamist group controls much of Mogadishu.

Addressing commanders of the country’s newly trained coastal guards in Mogadishu, the president said the rebels’ ties with Al-Qaeda have shamed Somalis people.

Ahmed said they are ready to flush them out to restore peace. “They decided to kill anyone who does not obey their ideology,” he said.

A spokesman for Al-Shabaab denied the group was responsible for last Thursday's suicide bombing, but Somali leaders and U.N envoy to Somalia accused the group for the offence.

The new Somali navy is scheduled to join foreign warships to combat pirating in the Indian oceans and Gulf of Aden.
