Somalia: militants panic in Merca

    Security of the southern Somalia town of Merca has been beefed up, by the fighters of Al-shabaab, a day after a helicopter fired on houses which were suspected of belonging to some senior officials of the rebel group.

    The Islamist fighters have deployed their heavy militias in the region of the Lower Shabelle. They, armed with the anti-aircraft missiles, have pulled strengthen together along coastal regions of the raided town, according to alshahid.net.

    The presence of warships of the NATO and the European Union has been reported at the coastline of the area over the past days.

    Al-shabaab said the rockets of the helicopter narrowly missed killing some of its leaders, according to BBC.

    Following the unidentified helicopter attack on Sunday the members of the Islamist group confiscated the reporters, in the area, their mobile telephone for them not to report on the incident.

    Last year a US helicopter attacked the same town, killing a senior official of the Islamists of Al-shabaab.
