Islamist hardliners in Somalia have taken over the control of strategic town, Dobley, a southern border between Somalia and Kenya, after clashes with a rival group, reports say on Thursday. Al-shabaab fighters attacked and took over the town in the early hours of Wednesday from rival group Hizbul Islam.

AfricaNews reporter said several civilians fled from the town to seek refuge elsewhere. Local residents said heavily armed Al-shabaab militia is patrolling the key border town.

Earlier on Tuesday, Al-shabaab fighters seized the control of Qoqani village near the Kenya border, after Hizbul Islam militia left it without any clashes.

Reports say that fleeing Hizbul Islam officials ran into Kenyan security forces at the border where a top Hizbul Islam commander, Isse Kamboni was reportedly nabbed and is currently held in Kenya.

Islamist group of Al-shabaab who controls large part of southern Somalia captured Afmadow town near Kenya border four days ago.
