Somalia: Dr Abdullahi promises speedy reforms

    After successfully launching his bid for the Somalia presidency, Dr. Abdurahman M. Abdullahi has revealed his vision for the country.

    On Sunday, Dr Abdullahi addressed Somali community in Nairobi, Kenya where he expounded that his presidency will bring peace and tranquility t to the county- based on the principles of peace, tolerance and return to constitutionalism.

    Popularly known as Badiyow, the presidential candidate officially launched his campaign on June 5, 2012 at Amira Hotel in Mogadishu - an historic event that marked the beginning of a new wave of change for the Somali people and the whole East African region.

    The extended mandate of all transition institutions end in August and a new administration must be elected through popular mandate in order to end the transition. Other tasks which need to be completed during the transition period include political reconciliation and building civilian and security institutions.

    Speaking in Nairobi, Dr Abdullahi emphasized that long lasting peace in Somalia can only be achieved through constitutional reforms, improved security, good governance and reconciliation. He called for support to all efforts aimed at the restoration of peace and stabilization Somalia through participatory peace process and decision-making.

    “In these moments when our beloved nation lies bruised and tired from over three decades (starting from the Ethiopian-Somali war in the late 1970′s) of downward slide, a robe has been thrown at us by the grace of Allah and the support of people of goodwill to raise ourselves up to our full stature of the proud nation that we once were”, he says.
