President of Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Shiekh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed on Monday granted an amnesty to 74 prisoners from a central prison camp in his country's capital city, Mogadishu, an official said. The District Commissioner of Karan, in the capital, Abdullahi Mahamed Roble was among those who had luck to benefit from the official pardon.

A Somali martial court sentenced Roble to a ten year term in prison few weeks ago after he was arraigned before it over an allegation relating to misappropriation of humanitarian aid intended to hundreds of internally displaced persons in his area.
Speaking to journalists in Mogadishu the Deputy for TFG’s ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs Ahmed Abdullah Husein Fanah said that they sent 69 prisoners to their homes following the recent presidential pardon announcement.
“In the respect of a circular letter from the office of the president, 6th of this month, [November] which states that president Sheikh Sharif provided forgiveness to 74 prisoners we are now releasing 69 of them today. We shall free the rest a few days coming”, said Mr Fanah.
Mr Fanah said the released prisoners had unrelated cases where some were sent to a prison by military law court while others by civil law courts in the country.
According to an eyewitness tens of family members and relatives of the released prisoners flocked at the camp with happy faces and smiles to celebrate to see their loved ones back home.
Some of the prisoners expressed their gratitude to president Sharif and his interim administration.
“We are in the prison for some times, we are so happy now to see and join our family back, said of the released prisoners.
This is not the first time that president Sharif is giving such forgiveness to the country’s prison men and women. In 2009 shortly after he became the president, he rendered an amnesty to more than 10 youths locked up in the same camp.
