Social forum delegates want solution for Ivory Coast


  1. Delegates at the world social forum currently underway in the Senegalese capital, Dakar have expressed concern on the presidential stand off between Alasan Ouatatara and Laurent Bagbo in Ivory Coast.

    many of them stressed the need for stakeholders in the negotiations process should talk to the Ivorian people for peaceful end of the ongoing crisis centered on the social reforms democracy and crisis in Africa.


    Halifa Sallah, Secretary General of the People Democratic Organization for Independence and Social (PDOIS) emphasized that people should not under estimate the essence of democracy,he recalled that Mr Laurent Bagbo was elected in an election which widely contested in terms of legitimacy. He said since then he has never allow elections to take place ''what exist in Ivory Coast is a constitutional and institutional crisis, therefore, despite the the impact stakeholders should be ready to hold talks withe Ivorian people to discuss a way out to end the crisis .''

    According to the Gambia opposition leader, social movement are the right are the right platforms people should use to campaign for their rights self determination to enable each African to understand that they are embodiment of the sovereignty of the people. he said the national liberation emerged out of a democratic ideal for people to struggle for self determination and independence to enable to charge of their own destiny.

    Joseph Camara from Sierra Leon argued that Africa has leadership crisis because refuse don't want to accept the rules of the game, he called on the civil society organization in Africa to put pressure on the political leaders to have a consensus on on the rules of the game to restore real democratic values in the continent.

    for his part Ousman camara an Ivorian National suggested that Ivroians should allow to go for re-election since the Bagbo has refuse to cede power after being delcared looser in the November 2010 run off. He recalled that during the presidnetial campaign both candidates promise better economic growth and development among other find ideas, but the currently has defeated the purpose.''I don't want the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the use force to remove Bagbo from power,he lamented.''

    Thomas Beleteh form Benin Republic urged the international community to focus on his country's presidential because what happened in Ivory Coast could take place in his country , saying they having election on the 27th of this month but electoral still reluctant to publish the electoral list, this he said could lead to political unrest in Benin.

    Participants belief that Africa should use the parliamentary system of government in stead of presidential system of government who is just individual taking decision that favors him/her, otherwise African will continue to face political crisis.
