Shit & Chicks shows a farmer in Northwest Ghana trapping termites for his chickens. You first see him gathering cow dung in the savannah. When he returns to the house he starts breaking the dry cow dung in small pieces and sprinkles them with water. He puts the moist cow dung in tins, and walks back into the savannah. He gets to a place where he left a similar tin the day before.
The tin is full of termites. He walks back to the house where he throws the contents of the tin on the ground. The small chicks attack and feast on the termites.
This age-old technique will probably disappear in the nearby future. Or will it stay because it is based on an indigenous knowledge system that is well-adopted to the local environment? Time will tell..
