Senegal coaching staff unpaid for months

    Senegal national coach Amara Traore and his backroom staff have still not been paid eight months after taking up their roles. Traore told the APS he has made a request to the Senegalese government to address the problem. "It's very difficult," he said.

    “I'd really like to be in the right psychological state to carry out my work. Football doesn't wait,” he said.

    The former Senegal international is assisted by two coaches, Abdoulaye Sarr and Mayacine Mar, and team co-ordinator Ferdinand Coly, reportedly none of whom have been paid for eight months.

    Traore became Senegal coach in December, after the country failed to qualify for a place at both the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

    "This is a warning, be it for salaries or working conditions. The success of a nation depends on learning the lessons of the past. There are concerns,” Traore cautioned.

    Senegal were drawn alongside Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mauritius in qualifying for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

    They face Cape Verde in a friendly game on August 11.
