ELS WIJT-MULDER – BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Amsterdam the Netherlands in 1942 during the Second World War. On the 13th April 1946 at the tender age of three and a half years, I had a train accident where I lost both my legs from under knee. These were trying moments when our country was faced with severe hunger just after the war. Health facilities were equally inadequate. The accident marked the beginning of a long journey to be exposed to difficulties that would prepare me to overcome challenges in the real life situations. I was hardened and learned to be a fighter in the struggle for basic needs in life.

I went through a Montessori system of education and after high school I was employed as a tour guide in Italy, a job that gave me a lot of exposure to European countries.
In 1984 I was employed by Otto Bock Benelux Orthopedic Industry as a public relations officer and my first major challenge was to establish and develop the department leading to its present status.

In 1989 my husband and me relocated to France – Dordogne where my dear husband died at the end of 1999. I am survived with two married daughters and two grandchildren.

During my childhood, I had been inspired a lot about Africa by my father who used to take me to the zoo from where he narrated revelations about the animals and people of Africa. I during childhood developed a feeling of one time visiting Africa. I grew into adulthood with a deeply routed commitment to visit Africa. The death of my husband coupled with my physical condition, which was my inspiration in helping the handicapped children, did contribute immensely in eventually making the final decision to come to Africa to help the physically, mentally and malnutritioned challenged children.

In October 2005, I made the big step and decided to go to Kenya. I arrived in Kenya with only a suitcase and a few clothes. My personal experience had taught me a lot about the suffering and inhuman treatment subjected to the handicapped children. In January 2006, I secured a rented house from which I started a children home – KKEO.

I visited DR Congo – Goma in May 2006 when and where I had my first experience with Spirulina. I found it suitable for use to provide solution to the problem of Hunger and Malnutrition. I have witnessed Spirulina enormously contributing to the restoration of health for persons/children with severe malnutrition, HIV/AIDS and other varied health conditions. It is from this background that I committed my resources to help and empower the needy community members.

Today we have a “Family Home” with 20 children, a staff of 17 peoples, and Spirulina cultivation of 140 m2
