The effective use of technology played a crucial role in the African National Congress electoral victory in South Africa, the spokesperson of the president-elect, Jacob Zuma said. Zuma will officially be sworn in at a ceremony to be held in the country's capital city, Pretoria, next week.

In an interview with the CAJ News Agency, Zizi Kodwa, revealed that the president uses a Nokia N95 cell phone. “Apart from using the N95 for communication, he also used a laptop connected to a 3G whenever he traveled throughout the country during the election campaigns. The president had a hectic time schedules as he responded to various letters written to him by electorate. President Zuma also communicated with other international leaders, fellow African presidents using the gadget,” itnewsafrica.com quoted Kodwa.
The Nokia N95 includes features such as a 5 megapixel camera, GPRS connectivity, video and music playback, internet and e-mail browsing.
He added: “In most cases, he used his mobile gadget to communicate with the business community, other African presidents, politicians and citizens of this country.”
South African political parties attempted to follow the example of the United States of America (USA)’s president, Barack Obama, whose campaign used the internet to great effect in securing political victory.
