SA: Police hunt for ex-football star

A South African court has issued an arrest warrant for a former Zimbabwean football legend, Peter Ndlovu, after he failed to take a paternity test and skipped a court appearance in a maintenance battle with his ex-wife, Carol Dlamini, popularly known as Sharon Dee. Ndlovu has two children with Dlamini.

A DNA paternity test in South Africa averages R2, 350 (about $267) for one child and the alleged father. In total, Ndlovu would have paid just under R5, 000 (about $367) for tests on him and the two children.

Sharon divorced Ndlovu in November last year citing his infidelity, is seeking R36,000 monthly for their two children, R10,000 for herself and a further contribution towards her mortgage payments.

But the 36-year-old striker nicknamed the Bulawayo Bullet or Flying Elephant is reportedly broke.

On Monday he was due to appear in Randburg Maintenance court but failed leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Ndlovu earned millions of pounds after signing for Coventry City -- then in the English Premier League -- from Zimbabwe soccer giants Highlanders in 1991. He spent six fruitful years, winning many plaudits for his eye for goal and dribbling skills.

He then joined Birmingham City in July 1997, but was then sent on loan to fellow Division One side Huddersfield Town in 2000 before joining Sheffield United in February 2001.

After three years in Sheffield, the hitman then left the United Kingdom for South Africa in 2004 in a move that generated a lot of debate back home and across the Limpopo.

He joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004 where he reportedly earned R120,000 a month.

Currenctly he’s on a one-year contract with lowly South African Premier Soccer League side Thanda Royal Zulu.

He once scored a hat trick against Liverpool at Anfield. At one time he was the longest serving African player in the UK.

For the Warriors he is the current longest serving member of the Warriors – record 15 years service scoring a record 38 goals, the highest ever scored by an individual player.
