Angola has signed an agreement with Russia that will see the country developing its telecommunication sector among others. Telecommunication is one of the sectors which have failed to improve in the Africa continent. The agreement will also look into strengthening the areas of aviation and mining.

Angola is one of the largest producers of oil which is its economic lifeblood.

However, the country experienced a civil war which led to destruction of its important infrastructure.

A Reuters report as said that in one of the six agreements, signed between ministers of the two countries, Russia said that it would help place in orbit the southern African country’s first satellite.

The report further said that the satellite is branded Angosat and is expected to improve telecommunication systems.

Russia and Angola had close links during the cold war but the relationship varnished. Russia under President Dmitry Medvedev looks set to bring back the relationship.

However reports say that Russia faces competition from other countries like China and United States of America.

The African continent which is said to be rich in resources, has of late received a tremendous support from countries like China and USA who have invested more money in various projects.

Angola is set to hold the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

The southern African country is said to be the second-largest petroleum and diamond producer in sub-Saharan Africa.
