Religious leaders meet for peace in Casamance

    Religious leaders have postponed a meeting in Casamance, Senegal to discuss the way forward to bring lasting peace in the war turn Senegalese Southern Region.

    An initial talks led by Sheikh Papa Ndiaye a spiritual leader was characterized by prayers with recitation from the Quran in his spiritual worship place in Pachala Village situated six kilometres from Fitick Town.

    The five day meeting is expected to be characterize by discussion with leaders of the MFDC rebels spiritual and ethnic groups among other stakeholders in all major towns in Casamance to find a solution to the 28 year old civil war in Casamance.

    Sheikh Papa Ndiaye organized a prayer day for the people of Casamance, which brought together a cross section of men and women, civil society groups among other stakeholders in the peace process to prayer for peace in Casamance.

    The Sheikh explains how he began the peace talks dating back in 2007, noting that this a mission he should accomplish and he doesn’t need any reward. He stressed that some government authorities are benefiting from the Casamnce crisis. ‘Some people have attempted to kill me because they don’t want peace in Casamance. I will sacrifice my life to ensure that there is lasting peace in Casamance.

    Abdoulie Diallo, governor of Fatick region commended President Abdoulie Wade for the excellent measures in the peace process in Casamance; Governor Diallo described the crisis as complex one and further called on stakeholders to unit and join hands with Sheikh Papa Ndiaye to end the crisis in Casamance. a complex one.

    The women of casamnce said they need no more war in Casamance, calling the people of Casamance to unit in search of lasting peace in the region.

    According to Marta Senghore head of the Kabengkoto women spiritual group before to the Sheikh involvement to the peace process they have been in constant fear, adding that they sue to find it difficult to on their daily businesses.

    Many the many observers said the crisis in Casamance is been mystic but it is not a military or political problem.
