RAS KAMBONI FALLS TO KENYAN TROOPS

  1. A major haven and recruitment training base for the Al-Shabaab militia group, ras Kamboni, has been captured by the Kenyan troops. The town fell in the kenyan hands on Thursday. Announcing the fit, the Kenya Army spokesman major Emanuel Chirchir said that this achievement will give the kenyan forces a major leverage over the militants. " This avenue provides the Defence Forces with a vantage to clear al .Shabaab and pirates on the Somali waters from Ras Kiamboni to Kismayu,” he said. he also added that the troops did not face any resistance.

before the ground troops moved in, the Kenya Airforce fighter jets had pounded the area with misiles, thus sending the Al-Shabaab fighter running for cover.

Apart from being a major training base for the Al-Shabaab, ras Kamboni has also been a pirates' paradise. The pirates activities on the Indian Ocean have led to major players in the world deploy military forces to deter the pirates from hijacking ships and demanding ransome. Ras kamboni has also been a major crossing point for foreign jihadist fighters, who have been crossing into ras Kambni through the Kiunga boarder point along the kenyan coast.

After the capture of ras Kamboni, the forces aspire to move into Kismayu where they hopew to link up with their coleagues who are advancing from the Central Sector, who are in the outskirts of the town of Afmadow. However, the their advance has been hampered by the heavy rains that have been pounding the area South of Somalia.

If the kenyan troops succeed in capturing Kismayu as they plan, then this will deal a major blow to Al-Shabaab, as it will cut off the supply of arms and the revenue they make from the port. Kismayu is the base where hijacked ships are docked as they await the payment of ransome.
