Press review: Tony Blair in Conakry.


  1. The most important titles in newspapers published last week are: Tony Blair's visit to Guinea who is currently the head of the Africa Governance Initiative Foundation which helps developing countries to improve governance and promote private investment, Bernard Kouchner’s interview with France Info, the interview of Jean Marie Dore with Le Diplomate Newspaper, the resigning at the Arc en Ciel coalition, the case of travel documents and the new crisis in the CBG Mining Company.
    La Lance Newspaper No. 774 of December 14, Former British Prime Minister visits Alpha Conde, the ways of the crisis according to Tony Blair: ''On December 12, Tony Blair visited President Alpha Condé. He is currently the head of the Africa Governance Initiative Foundation, which helps developing countries to improve governance and promote private investment.'' Furthermore Tony Blair hosted a press conference during which he explained his ambitions for Guinea: ''For us, we come to help the government to achieve their priorities. There must be political, but you must have a way that leads to political development.''
    On the same subject Le Rassembleur in its No. 28 of December 13 quoted Tony Blair “I trust the vision that your president has for Guinea”. Guinea, Liberia, Rwanda and Sierra Leone are the countries where Blair’s Foundation operates by providing institutional support to governments. ''Continuing, Tony Blair said: ''It's a confidence in the social project of Alpha Condé that motivated me to support the Guinean government.''
    Compared to the interview that Bernard Kouchner has granted to France Info, Observateur Newspaper in its No. 572 of December 12 headlined, Kouchner, volunteer advisor of Alpha Conde:'' When asked about his relationship with Alpha Conde, Kouchner answered angrily, I am an informal adviser, its spook, I am a volunteer, I'm not paid and I am with my friend.''
    Le Rassembleur Newspaper No. 28 of December 13 titled; Kouchner spoke of his consulting in Guinea: ''I am a volunteer, I'm not getting paid.''
    The other subject that made the news last week is the interview given by the former prime minister Jean Marie Dore in Diplomate Newspaper in No. 449 of December 14 headlined as JMD, opponents were crawling in chalk: ''All the crying people are opportunists. Some had been minister for 11 years. Some of them were prime ministers. They began to knee to Conte and polish his shoes. I've never waxed Lansana Conte shoes.'' Continuing in this way, Jean Marie said, '' Some went crawling in Dadis Camara’s house and others in Konate’s home who paid their deposit and material campaign.''
    The history of travel documents continues to make headlines. La Verité newspaper in its No. 191 of 14 December talked about the false commitments of the General Toto: ''Accused of having signed, canceled and signed again for the same contract with three different companies in this case, Oberthur Technologies, Multimedia and Glory Africard Guinea, Toto. Its aim is to prove that Professor Alpha Condé is unfit for presidential office.''

    as for Le Nimba Newspaper in its No. 024 of December 12, talks about the crisis in CBG Mining Company in these words' CBG once more in crisis: '' CBG workers went on strike is for one day on Thursday, December 8 . The workers demanded a wage increase of 50%.The involvement of the head of state will be allowed to end the walkout and to start negotiations.''
