Ammunition included AK-47 rounds, R1 rounds, R5 rounds, 9mm rounds, shotgun rounds and .38 revolver rounds and a number of gold bracelets were also found among the arms at the Katlehong property.

National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele said: "It is a Christmas present. Those guys had arms and they were prepared to go to war."

Cele is quoted by Times LIVE that the kinds of weapons seized during the raid were commonly used in assassinations and during robberies of malls and banks.

"These guys don't carry broomsticks. The guns are for elimination should anyone come their way as they do their dirty work."

A neighbour said the occupants of the house had been living there for years: "I grew up with the kids of the house, but the family keeps to themselves."

He said he was surprised when the police took the mother of the house into custody.

National Police spokesman Vishnu Naidoo refused to provide any information about the woman.

"She has not been arrested, but has been taken in for questioning," said Naidoo.
