Pistorius's Baill application continues today

  1. More detail is expected to emerge in today's bail application of Paralympian Oscar Pistorius. Yesterday Magistrate Desmond Nair ruled that Pistorius be charged with premeditated murder after his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp was found shot and killed at his upmarket Pretoria East Home.

The schedule 6 offence means that his legal team would have to argue exceptional circumstances that he be released on bail.

In yesterday's court hearing, Pistorius gave his account of events on the fateful day in a ten page affidavit that was read out in court. He also stated that he had felt vulnerable when hearing sounds coming from the bathroom, as he did not have his prosthetic legs on at the time. In it, he stated that he loved Steenkamp, and that he had mistakenly shot her.

Steenkamp was shot four times through a locked bathroom door, which Pistorius said he had then beat open with a cricket bat, after putting on his prosthetic legs, when he realised that it was his girlfriend in the bathroom. Pistorius also appeared to be an emotional wreck as he sobbed each time Steenkamp's name was read out in court.

Meanwhile National Prosecuting authority spokesperson Medupi Simasiku said that the case would be completed by the end of the week. He went on to say that that they could not comment any further on the case, and would have to respond in court as the State. He was speaking outside court after the case was postponed yesterday.

But as the case continues this morning, Steenkamp had an emotional burial yesterday at her home town in Port Elizabeth. Several family members, friends and celebrities attended the private ceremony. In an emotional statement released by her uncle yesterday he said that there is now a gap in the family since losing Reeva.
