Photo series: Giant billboards beautify Accra

  1. Text and photos by: Emmanuel Yankey, AfricaNews reporter in Accra, Ghana
Giant billboards are sprouting on the streets of Accra - the capital of Ghana. They have moved from their core function of advertisement to adding colour and beauty to the semi-high rising office complexes in the city.

The billboards come in different shapes and design. Their artistic nature has the touch of a modern décor. The pretty ladies and handsome young men on these giant edifices are just enough to make one wear a smile.

In the night they light up the streets and parade the skies like beauty queens. AfricaNews reporter Emmanuel Yankey made this photo series to exhibit how the “unsung beauty queens” are competing for space in Accra.
