Officials have begun verifying the results of Zimbabwe's presidential poll. First results showed that opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai took 47,9 % of Zimbabwe's presidential vote, against 43,2 % for President Mugabe. The opposition on Friday disputed the results saying Tsvangirai got 50,3% of the vote. International pressure keeps rising after much reported violence.

The MDC has accused the government of launching a campaign of violence and intimidation ahead of the possible second round and said 20 of its members had been killed by pro-government militias. The government denies carrying out a violent campaign and accuses the MDC of political attacks. Read more and

Both the UN and the United States have expressed their concerns about the current situation in Zimbabwe. The United States urged Mugabe on Thursday to ‘call of his dogs’who are allegedly attacking opposition supporters and to release the presidential election results.
Meanwhile UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said the Election commission has to release the Presidential poll results while clearly stating that there is serious humanitarian crisis in the country. "The humanitarian situation is very worrisome," he said. "The Zimbabwe government has not released presidential results after four weeks…Because of the increasing violence and the number of displaced people fleeing their homes to other places, there is a serious humanitarian crisis," Ban adding that Zimbabwe has been on a crisis since the March 29 elections.
