ODM ASPIRANT KILLED IN KISUMU CITY

Kisumu City in Nyanza Region of Kenya has become a no gone zone following the death of Kisumu Town East Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Chairman and aspirant for the newly created Kisumu Central Constituency, Shem Kwega.
Kwega who is also prominent businessman in Kisumu was shot together with his wife Rose Kwega by two armed thugs within the Central Business District (CBD) at around 10am.
The deceased and wife were rushed to Aga- Khan Hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nadim Mawji. The doctor said that the wife was in a stable condition saying that the doctors are doing all it take to save her life.
It is reported that the deceased was shot on his head with three bullets and one on his chest before with the wife shot on her chest after which the thugs armed with AK47 riffles fled with a car by the nearby car-wash.The car was later abandoned by the thugs at Nyamasaria estate before they flee away.
Kwega who owns a number of petrol stations within the city was robbed unknown amount of cash which he was going to bank before ambushed by these thugs.
However, as the news spread like bushfire within the City and its environs, this prompt the angry residents to stormed the Kisumu Police Station and Division demanding an explanation of the killings which they say have been rampant in the region for the last two weeks.
This comes barely a week after three people including doctor from Kenya Institute of Research, a student and a security guard was murdered in a cold blood before the thugs stole unknown amount of cash from the doctor and the church where the security officer was manning.
It is the rise of insecurity that prompt the area residents to engage police in a running battle forcing the police to lobby a tear gas canisters to disperse the angry crowed who vowed not surrender until the security situation in Kisumu and its environs shall have been addressed.
The incident have so far paralyzed business and transport activities in the city leaving travelers and buyers stranded with nowhere to get the services the came for.
However for the last three months, carjacking has become rampant in Kisumu City. This the resident reported to be a syndicate adding that everyday there must be a carjacking and robbery case in the lakeside city.
This has made the police to be on the receiving end of the blame due to their laxity of ensuring security. However,Nyanza Provincial Police Officer, Joseph Oletito said police are underway with investigation and will soon arrest the suspects.
He urged the residents to maintain peace as police is carrying out investigation. But this was not taken lightly with angry residents who demand immediate transfers of various police boss such as OCPD, OCS among others in the region.And as were going on air things have not yet come to normal as police are still engage the rioter in a running battle.
