Nigeria ready for FIFA U-17 World Cup

    Most top ranking hotels across Nigeria are in complete makeover in preparation for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup from October to November 2009. Hotel officials in the six states where the event will hold are turning over the walls in paints, interior decoration and general lawn and lounge beautification.

    “Even smaller hotels are doing a lot in improving the outlook of the building, making it more attractive to visitors and tourists during the FIFA event,” stated Remi Kujenya, manager of a top-ranking hotel in Lagos.

    Safety

    In addition to the improvements of the hotels, safety of visitors is one issue that is being prepared for. “We are working in tangent with the security operatives to ensure that all hotels are registered with the Police and law enforcement agencies” said Mainasara Iloh, chairman of the local organizing committee of the event.

    Iloh insisted that issues of safety top the agenda of the country and that every available resource will be deplored to ensure that all visitors and participants are tightly secured.

    The Nigerian Minister of sports Sani Mohammed Ndanusa also promised that security would not be compromised. “We are in top gear ready for the tournament. We are ready to show our hospitality to the world…. we are aware of issues of security. I can assure you that that will not be a problem at all,” he said.
