The report stated that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) put Visafone’s subscriber base at around 2.2 million at the end of 2008, but that the company has since grown that number by 500,000 users of its mobile telephony services, itnewsafrica.com reported.

The article further attributed the operator’s strong growth numbers to an aggressive rollout strategy, combining a large geographical network service footprint with relatively cheap mobile handsets on offer to consumers.

Visafone, which commenced its Nigerian mobile operations in February 2008, has already collected almost a dozen industry awards, including Best Telecom Brand and ICT Company of the Year.
