Nigeria: Police arrest ‘big fish’

    A militant leader in Bayelsa State of Nigeria, Ken Nweigha, popularly known as 'Daddy Ken' alleged to have masterminded the recent attacks on the Nigeria military has been arrested in southern Nigeria. Ken was arrested while escaping arrest in a shoot out with the police. One of his men was killed.

    Daddy Ken is accused of leading a militant group which provoked recent attacks on the Nigeria military killing 11 of their men. Over 50 people were killed in that battle which lasted for over two weeks, according to Human Rights bodies.

    Daddy Ken was arrested after 500 women pressed on the Commissioner of Police in that area to protect peace. Daddy Ken was reported to have driven his car into a road block as he tried to escape but the police opened fire on his convoy killing one on the spot, according to a BBC report.

    Militants groups in Northern Nigeria are claiming to be fighting for a fair share of their country’s oil wealth but the Nigeria army said they are nothing but ‘bunch of criminals.’ Those groups have specialized in hostage taken and ransom demand.
