Nigeria: Man rapes kid for 15yrs in prison

    A 22-year-old man has been slapped with 15 years imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl in Kano, Northern Nigeria. Musa Usman, committed the offence sometime in October 2005.

    The prosecutor Bala Sani, informed the court that on October 4, 2005 Usman was arrested in his room, after the people of the area reported him to the police. “He beckoned the girl with biscuit to his room. After she came he closed the door. Later the people heard a scream and crying, they run to the house and saw Musa half naked with the small girl in blood,” the prosecutor added.

    Speaking further, the prosecutor said the offence committed by the accused person is contrary to sections 79, and 285 of the penal code law of the West African nation. Since 2005 the accused had been in remand.

    The accused told newsmen at the court premises before being whisked away that he did not commit the offence. He said his neighbours hated him and will appeal against the court ruling.
