Nigeria: After Post Election Violence

  1. After destruction, chaos, atrocity and killing of innocent Nigerians in post election violence that left almost all northern Nigeria’s states ablaze is still hunting the mind s of patriotic Nigerians on way forward to end this human caused calamity from happening again in future. The Report which was just released said over 5 million dollar worth of properties were lost during the uprising. And more than 1000 people lost their lives; almost 500 are still in the police and military barracks taking refuge from the crisis.

To be sincere and frank most of the crisis that erupted in Northern Nigeria is instigated by unscrupulous politicians, as a result of their lectures to their supporters. Indeed Nigeria is a country were God destined Muslims and Christians to leave together and there is no reason whatsoever for anybody t o opposed what God already did by polluting the mind of the illiterate youth by instigating them to take law in their hand in the name of politics.

Mass media, particularly radio stations in northern Nigeria and some foreign radio stations who are broadcasting in Hausa language are playing role in fuelling the hatred among the politicians in Nigeria. Radio programs of different political manifestation attract immense listenership because of its freely right for ‘saying whatever you want to say’ politics, which some analysts say is not right in our ‘infant’ politics. The acting Nigerian Ambassador to UK in his remarks of the uprising that happened in Northern Nigeria accused BBC Hausa service for their report concerning the election as the contributor to the uprising. He urged foreign medias’ to be fair when reporting Nigeria’s issues in their respective media.

Bringing religion and ethnicity into our politics became an order of the day of our politicians some even sees it as the great weapon of winning an election.
In Nigeria there are more than 200 tribes that existed, and they are living together in respect and harmony. They are also using the same currency or notes that bear the photos, names, symbols and places of Nigeria. And up to now nobody dares to say to his supporters do not accept the ‘Nigeria’ currency because it does not have our representation.

Indeed the uprising that erupted after the presidential election that gave President Goodluck Jonathan a momentum victory really left and still the shadows of it remains. I could remember when President Obama announced that US has killed Osama bin Laden most Christians in Kano start leaving their homes to barracks, because of fear that anything can happen.

President Goodluck Jonathan, in his campaigns, he keep repeating saying when elected, his government will transform the lives of Nigerians by providing them with uninterrupted power supply, creating jobs opportunities especially to our teaming youth. By fulfilling those promises and providing qualitative and productive education from primary school up to tertiary institution would be a safeguard to the unity of the country against any act that can hamper the peace and unity of the most populous nation of Africa.
