Nigerians have been advised to disregard the rumour making the rounds that acid rain will fall on March 28th.

A meteorologist with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NMA), Modupe Ogunwale, gave this advice today in Lagos on "Fact File," a Raypower 100.5 FM radio 8.30am phone-in programme.

Ogunwale said that an NMA investigation on the internet showed that NASA had made it clear on its website that the acid rain speculation was not true.

She said that acid rain could fall only in a place where a factory was manufacturing radio-active things.

On the Harmattan haze being experienced in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, she said it was natural, adding that this could occur at any time of the year.

Nigerians, she said, must emulate their haze-stricken Chinese counterparts, who now wear masks as they go about their daily chores.
