Fifteen footballers of a local government football team in Nigeria crashed to death in a bus accident on Sunday. They were travelling through Plateau state, to play a match in the country's capital Abuja, a source with the Nigerian Football Federation said.

The police in Nigeria have confirmed the report. Nine female soccer players and their two coaches died in a similar accident last month at the same spot. The Nigeria Football Federation head, Mohamed Sanusi, also confirmed the incident to the BBC sports.
Nigerian roads are among the deadliest in the world because of large potholes, poorly maintained vehicles and dangerous driving.
Sanusi said the team, FC Jimeta from north-east Adamawa state, had been heading to the capital for a professional league match when their bus was involved in an accident. He told AFP news agency that 11 players had died at the scene while four others died in hospital. Two other injured players were said to be "on the danger list".
"It is really another very sad day for Nigerian football," said Sanusi.
At least 5,000 people die on Nigerian roads every year, according to the police. Most motorists in Africa's most populous country have never taken driving lessons since a license can easily be obtained by paying around $50, Reuters said.
