  2. Karamoja declared crisis region


    Karamojongs resort to hunting wild rats for survival as famine strikes the area. Five year old Sagari weighs only 5 kilograms. This means that for every year he has lived he has only gained one kilogram. Malnutrition is the disease he is suffering from. Sagari is one of the many children in Karamoja region who are battling with hunger and malnutrition. A few lucky ones have been brought to Matany hospital but the many unlucky ones have died. - At least 20 people have starved to death. Karamojongs have nothing to eat later on feed their children and since they have only one harvesting season in a year, which comes in August and september, the situation is bound to worsen.
