Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika has described critics to his month long 'globetrotting' state visits to US, Cuba and Iran as 'drunks and empty heads.'

Mutharika, who said his tour has been beneficial to Malawians and is not a source of forex drainage as the civil society and other critics purport, said the Cubans have discovered a chemical that will help Malawi get rid of mosquitoes.

"They are coming to Malawi to make the country mosquito free and therefore effectively help fight malaria," he told a press conference on arrival on Monday.

He also said his trip to Rogue state of Iran has yielded two secondary schools and a marine biology university in the mainly Moslem district of Mangochi.

"Iran will also bring experts to explore mineral mining and conduct exchange programmes in different fields. The Iranians will also send us experts to train our experts on how to manage poisonous snakes and how to treat snake bites," he explained.

In the US at the United Nations Assembly, Mutharika said he said managed to get support from Millennium Challenge Corporation of the US government to help abate the problem of power outage in the country.

“Nkula A and B would go on overhaul maintenance. Those machines have been there for 40 years,” he said.

"I would therefore like to urge Undule Mwakasungura and his friends to find something better to do when they are drunk," taking a swipe at the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation executive director.
