Muslim Human Rights Forum defends National Rights watchdog

  1. A Muslim human rights watchdog in Kenya has defended the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights against call made by the country’s suspended Highier Education Minister, William Ruto who claims the commission bribed, and coached witness to implicate him in 2007 post election violence.

In a new twist of events, the Muslim Human Rights watchdog yesterday claimed the two of the witnesses William Kipkembi Ron and Ken Wekesa are angry that they were dropped as witnesses since their evidences was found not to be relevant by the ICC investigations.
“ since their evidence was found useless by the ICC , the duo crossed over to the side where they hoped someone will find them useful,” An official of the Muslim Human Rights Forum Farouk Machanje yesterday said. “ they had become dependant and wanted to perpetuate the comfortable life and allowances .”
The forum accused Ruto of harbouring intentions to defeat justice by intimidating potential witnesses in complete violation of the Witness Protection act.
He absolved the Kenya National Commission of Human of Rights of any wrong doing in it effort to protect the witnesses who he said were living under threats.
“ upon expressing fears for their lives , KNCHR facilitated some witnesses with safe houses and monthly allowance ,” he said.
Yesterday , the forum in a strong worded statement accused the police of failing to arrest the duo for lying to the public.
“ the law is very clear this two witnesses have committed perjury they should be charged accordingly . Even the minister , William Ruto has a strong case to answer for trying to influence witnesses,” said Farouk Machanje.

He instead urged the supended Highier Education Minister , William Ruto to ask for forgiveness from the families and victims of the 2007 election violence rather than playing politics or prepare his legal team to go through the whole ICC process.
Claims by the Eldoret North MP, Willaim Ruto following his return from the Hague that six witnesses were couched by the national right watchdog have met stiff criticism from various circles including Justice Minister Mutual Kilonzo who cautioned Ruto against the move.

Ruto singled out Commissioner Hassan Omar Hassan as the brainchild behind the coaching and bribing of the witnesses. The commissioner is yet to offer his own reaction to the grave allegation made against him. But, KNCHR has urged him to table evidence against the commissioner

    Ends.
