Musiveni the first president to visit Somalia in two decades


  1. The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has gone in to record to become the first foreign head of state to visit the volatile Somalia Mogadishu nearly two decades since Somalia plunged in to civil war.
    A statements from Somalia Presidential palace Villa Somalia indicated that the Ugandan President paid a working visit to Mogadishu and met with the President of Somalia’s transitional Federal government, Sheikh Sharriff Ahmed and other key government officials including the speaker of the Somali parlairment Shariff Hassan , Prime Minister Mohamed Abdulahi .
    President Sharif thanked H.E. President Museveni for the historic visit which was the first by a head of state in close to 20 years and the constant support and sacrifice the people of Uganda make to assist their brothers in Somalia.
    The two Presidents discussed ways of deepening the already strong relationship between the two countries as well as the cooperating in marshalling the support necessary for the new Somali Government to fulfill its duties.
    The visit by the Ugandan President came less than 24 hours after the Somali parliarment gave a vote of a confidence to the new constituted lean cabinet.
    President Museveni who was accompanied by officers of the UPDF and his staff congratulated the leadership of the Somali Government for the successful conclusion of the political process that culminated in the Parliament providing a vote of confidence to the new Somali Cabinet.
    He also assured them that the Government and People of Uganda stand by their brethren in Somalia and will continue to support them in any way they can.
    Uganda is the largest contributor in about 6500 strong African troops helping the weak transitional federal government fight an insurgenency .
