"Who cares? They are impervious to such things. Price hikes, basic food shortages, unemployment, fuel shortages, brain drain, closure of companies, electricity shortages and clean water shortages. The list goes beyond pronunciation. They have the resources why should they care about us. When we walk to and from work, at the pedestrian crossing, they pass spitting at us from their posh cars without even courtesy of the right of way. When we queue to buy sugar or cooking oil they only need to send a driver to collect their more than enough allocation. They can procure fuel with their own foreign currency. Are you sure they don"t see it? See what! That the situation is extremely bad, that even themselves they can"t enjoy anymore... That, if someone would vote for a shutdown of Zimbabwe so that it will be born again many people will vouch for it. The mess is terrible, horrible and unimaginable.
The economic, socio and political crisis has simply gone haywire. Not to say the situation is scary to every peace loving Zimbabwean, but to every human being, senile or otherwise. We are placated and mollified by speeches and policies that are rarely put into action while the signs are there for everyone to address. Inflation soars to above 1500 percent, the economy is plunging even deeper into oblivion. The year started pregnant with strikes with doctors and nurses were striking for better pay for more than five weeks, demanding 9000 percent increment. Teachers also joined the bandwagon demanding at least anything above the poverty datum line. With the current hyperinflation there is no guarantee that poverty datum line of $500 000 will remain static.
How many nationwide strikes are going to be recorded this year? Grumbles in the private sector are getting louder by the day. Everyone wants an increament of some sort to cushion him or her from the ever-bludgeoning costs. The truth of the matter is salary increases have utterly failed to keep up with price hikes and, the companies themselves are groaning to keep up. But, who cares when farmers who get subsidised fuel quickly resell it on the black market for ten times more leaving their fields idle. With the political opposition hopelessly weak there is no hope of annihilating the CORRUPTION industry that straddles over Zimbabwe. Who cares when it"s hard to see public discontent turning into real threat for President Robert Mugabe?
In I993 there were at least 20 political parties in the country, ever since some have died, resurrected or re-branded, ultimately failing to carry their bosoms to the State House. The road for ruling government is indeed nasty especially with the dehydrating economic diarrhoea that has turned it into a punch bag of insults and criticism. The stakes are higher but there is no sign of the government flinching. The stocked public perception is that the cosy seat of power is hard to relinquish even if it"s the drug that is a panacea for cancerous corruption and mismanagement.
Who cares to respond to your survival desires when they know that by dealing with the issues, another time, another place, they will find themselves in the dock for perpetuating human misery? Why quit when the real fight is to stay on course and remain untouchable? We all agree that there is a need to improve our way of life but there is no solution on who cares enough on how improvements should be done."
