South Africa's president, Motlanthe, said he will strive to maintain growth and create more jobs. He said he would ensure that the benefits of growth are equally shared by all people. "We will remain true to the policies that have kept South Africa steady and that have ensured sustained growth," he added.

The new president who faces the task of winning donor support and reassure investors of prudent leadership further said that he would keep the pro-business policies and continue from where his predecessor Mbeki had left.
Motlanthe, a quiet spoken leftist intellectual and an ally of ANC president Jacob Zuma, faces huge challenges including slowing economic growth and high inflation. A Reuters News Agency report said.
He has retained respected minister of finance Trevor Manuel whose stepping down on Tuesday hit the rand currency. The move is also one way of maintaining continuity with Mbeki’s government and to strengthen his support for donors and investors.
Other ministers who have been retained in Motlanthe’s government include foreign and minerals ministers. The new president has also reappointed Minister of mines Buyelwa Sonjica. Other ministers who have been taken on board are Brigitte Mabandla who will head the public enterprise ministry replacing Alec Erwin.
The New president was elected by parliament in a secret ballot and will serve as interim president until a general election next year when Zuma is expected to become head of state.
