Mali signs up for digital education

    Mali has reached an agreement for the establishment of new schools that will employ the digital education system. The project is an initiative of the French government, and it is part of a bigger one geared towards enhancing efforts towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of education in Africa.

    Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure signed the agreement with officials manning the project, at the fringes of the recently concluded Africa-France Summit in the French city of Nice.

    The project entails usage of digital equipment like computers in classes which allow teachers to access a wealth of digital resources and to share with their students.

    The organizers argue that digital education, which is already a commonplace in Europe, is not supposed to be preserved for richer countries as the technology helps provide low-cost classes with digital equipment. 300 classrooms have been earmarked for establishment as a starting point of the project in Mali.

    However, one major issue that appears to concern the authorities here is the situation surrounding electricity supply, which is in fact a major problem for the entire continent.
