Malawi's Queens geared to defend its World ranking

  1. Malawi Netball team popularly known as Queens says it is prepared to defend its number five World rank ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held this coming October in Delhi, India.

Netball Association of Malawi President Rose Chinunda says they have received an invitation by their rivals South Africa Netball team for a two match strengthen test to be held next month.

The International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) website says that South Africa netball team have been warned that they should topple Malawi at all costs or risk not going to the Commonwealth Games. Reacting to the reports, Chinunda, says they will not let that happen.

"We want to continue to be Africa's best and will go to South Africa with a mission to protect our position. This will also be another chance for us to prepare for commonwealth games. They are giving us an opportunity to strengthen ourselves," she said.

Malawi netball team topped South Africa as number five in the World three years ago during the World Netball Champion in South Africa and maintained their superiority by beating them twice in last year's COSANA held in South Africa.

Currently, South Africa has gone for a four day training camp in Potchefstroom to prepare themselves for a packed calender ahead of the Commonwealth games.

They have also invited their rivals Malawi next month for a two match test before heading to New Zealand for a training tour in June this year. The out come of these friendly games is the only measure to topple Malawi.
